Joki Freund, the composer and multi-instrumentalist is one of the most atypical figures of those years and Yogi Jazz is undoubtedly his masterpiece. Coltrane's influence is clear throughout the album and the sextet, for which he assembled a group of young European musicians who would later achieve great fame (Wolfgang Dauner on piano and the equally famous bassist Eberhard Weber), touches unique heights of coolness in moments of original and rare beauty.
